TIP. The better the photo the better the painting.

Good photos are important as this is the only way I can see how to paint your pet.
Following are some useful tips in preparing your pet photos...

Photo Tips:

  1. A digital camera with atleast 4 mega pixels is best.
  2. Take close up shots of the head as well as full body shots.
  3. When framing your pet, make sure you are down at their level as this looks best (photos shot looking down, forces them to look up).
  4. Take several shots to increase your chances of getting a great shot.
  5. Best to shoot the picture out doors but not in direct sunlight. Bright overcast is ideal.
  6. Don't use the FLASH, it only makes things look unnatural.
  7. Only use FLASH photography or shoot in direct sunlight, if your pet is dark skinned or has dark fur.
  8. Try to pose your pet on the 3/4 angle, looking towards the camera with their head turned.
  9. Does your pet have a favourite pose? Wait for them to do this and snap the shot.

Prepare Photos to Upload:

  1. You cand submit your photos online via the File Upload on the Order Form, or you can post them to Greg.
  2. Prepare your photos as above Photo Tips and then compress them with Winzip, or some other compression software.
  3. Locate the zipped file and upload. See FAQ for more info.
  4. Please be patient when submitting the Order Form as your photos, depending on the size may take a while to upload. There is a 10 mb limit on the size fo the zipped files, so please check size BEFORE adding to the order form and submitting.

Backgrounds:

Plain backgrounds are best as they focus on your pet and produce a more pleasing contemporary look'n'feel. Don't worry about the background in your photos this can be changed when Greg does your painting. If you have a particular background that you would like for the painting then you can discuss this with Greg when you supply your photos.
